Introduction to the Executive Function Blueprint
Description:
This course is designed to complement the companion book, The Executive Function Blueprint: A Practical Framework for the Classroom, offering a comprehensive exploration of Executive Function skills and their crucial role in academic and personal success. Learners will begin with an exploration of the foundational concepts of Executive Function, then dive into the eight key Executive Function controls: Inhibit, Shift, Regulate, Self-Monitor, Working Memory, Initiate, Plan and Organize, and Task Monitor. Each skill is covered in its own dedicated module, where learners gain practical strategies for teaching and reinforcing these skills with students. Through interactive activities, videos, games, and reflective exercises, participants will experience the skills from the student perspective and learn how to support students’ development. The course emphasizes a metacognitive approach to teaching Executive Function skills, with a focus on a developmental continuum from elementary to secondary students. Additionally, the appendices in the book are explained in detail, providing practical resources and tools that teachers can apply immediately in the classroom to support student learning. In the final module, learners will use their knowledge in real-life scenarios, reflect on their own strengths and challenges, and explore new strategies for reinforcing Executive Function skills with students.
