ETSL: EBLI Teacher Training and Student Lessons

This is an asynchronous, online course in EBLI (Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction) with ongoing training, support, and refinement as well as application of what is learned in the training to student instruction by teachers and anyone teaching reading. EBLI is a research-aligned, integrated, speech-first, Structured Linguistic Literacy system that includes explicit, foundational instruction in the skills, concepts, activities, and strategies in all areas of literacy. EBLI includes explicit decoding or integrated phonemic awareness and phonics teaching through speech-first, non-rules-based systematic, explicit instruction of the letter/sound relationship and concepts, patterns, and tendencies unique to the English language. Vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension are taught explicitly with transference reinforced by applying what was learned immediately by reading in connected text. Spelling, handwriting, and writing are also explicitly taught, with support to transferring what was learned through scaffolded, dictated writing that is gradually released to independent writing. Instruction, for trainees and their students, is multi-modal as well as diagnostic and prescriptive with an emphasis on foundational instruction and a focus on accuracy, engagement, and application. This course includes instruction on how to infuse the EBLI activities and strategies across the curriculum, within all subject areas that require reading, writing, and spelling. Course participants will learn to teach EBLI strategies to students in kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms or remedial students Kindergarten through adult (Special Education, Learning Disabled, Dyslexic, or any struggling readers) in any instructional setting (1 on 1, small group, whole class).
